Varsity Soccer Boys Split, JV Wins One

Entering the final stretch of the 2017-2018 boys soccer season, Oakdale is still in the hunt for a playoff spot. This past week Oakdale went 1-1-0 in Valley Oak League action and the team is currently in fourth place in the standings. The Mustangs (8-8-4, 5-3-2) suffered a 2-0 road loss to East Union (15-4-3, 7-1-2) on Monday, Jan. 29 in Manteca.

Two days later the boys answered with a 2-1 road win against Kimball (3-11-1, 2-7-1) in Tracy. Alex Zamora scored both goals for the Mustangs to power the team to a much needed victory. Zamora’s first goal came off an assist from Esteban Garcia in the first half and then Carson Frazee found Zamora in the second half.

On Monday, Feb. 5 Oakdale hosted first place Sierra (12-4-2, 8-1-1) following The Leader’s press time. In their previous meeting Oakdale blanked the Wolves 3-0 on Jan. 3. It was the only Valley Oak League loss the Wolves suffered thus far in league play.

The Mustangs return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Lathrop (5-10-3, 2-6-2) to take on the Spartans. Oakdale will host third place Weston Ranch (7-9-3, 7-2-1) on Monday, Feb. 12. That will be Senior Night where the team will honor their 10 seniors.

In their first league game this season, the Mustangs and Weston Ranch Cougars tied 1-1 on Jan. 10 in Stockton. Oakdale finishes the season at Central Catholic (3-7-3, 2-5-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The Raiders defeated the Mustangs 2-1 on Jan. 22. All games are scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale defeated Kimball 3-0 on the road Wednesday, Jan. 31. The JV Mustangs led 1-0 at halftime. Caden Frazee scored with an assist from Edgar Herrera in the first half. In the second, Alfie Harris scored on an assist by Julian Renteria. Later in the half, Frazee found Herrera for the final goal of the game.
