Varsity Mustang Hoop Boys Earn Second League Win

The Oakdale varsity boys basketball team earned its second Valley Oak League win of the season on Jan. 26.

Friday night, the varsity Mustangs (9-13, 2-6) completed the season sweep over East Union (4-17, 0-8) on the road. In the contest Oakdale led by one at the half, 25-24 and outscored the Lancers 14-9 in the third to help open things up. Drew Legan scored 24 points, center Sam Medlin added 15 points and Jace Krick scored 11 to help power the Mustangs to the road win. Oakdale has defeated the Lancers three of the last four meetings between the teams.

Wednesday night, Jan. 24 was a different outcome for the Mustangs as they lost 68-37 to the visiting Central Catholic Raiders (19-2, 8-0). The first place Raiders pulled out to an early lead and did not slow down the rest of the evening. Oakdale trailed 43-19 at the half. Legan scored a team high 15 points for Oakdale, the only Mustang to score in double digits in the home loss. Krick scored eight points for the Mustangs before fouling out.

Monday, Jan. 29 the team traveled to Stockton to take on the second place Weston Ranch Cougars (15-6, 7-1). The Valley Oak League showdown took place following The Leader’s press time. The Mustangs will return home for a trio of games before wrapping up the season on the road Feb. 14 against Sierra.

On Wednesday, Jan. 31 the Mustangs will host Kimball (10-11, 3-5) with a tipoff time of 7 p.m.

Oakdale hosts Lathrop (6-14, 3-5) on Friday, Feb. 2 and have their final home game of the season on Wednesday, Feb. 7 against Manteca (9-12, 5-3).

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The junior varsity boys suffered a 60-38 home loss to the Raiders on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Jason Rawe scored a team high nine points and Peyton Bradford added eight points. The Mustangs traveled Friday night to Manteca to face the East Union Lancers where the Lancers knocked off the JV boys, 69-55. Three Mustangs scored in double digits as Rawe scored 19, Jonah Norman scored 13 and Jaiden Williams added 11.

 

FRESHMEN

The youngest of the three Mustang teams, the freshmen, are currently 8-0 in the Valley Oak League as they knocked off Central Catholic and East Union this past week. In the home game against the Raiders, Oakdale won 57-43 behind 16 points from Izayah Perez. Robert Silva scored 14 and Carson Cripe added a dozen. Oakdale then went on the road and won 59-30 at East Union on Friday.
