Preseason has kept both the boys and girls Oakdale High School soccer teams busy so far.

The girls traveled to Riverbank in their lone contest of the week on Thursday evening, Dec. 7. Oakdale took down the Lady Bruins 9-0. Oakdale’s varsity girls had contributions from all over the field. Brianna Montoya scored three goals to help lead the charge. Kassy Rodriguez and Viviana Albor each added two goals while Daniela Dela Riva and Krissy Lolonis each found the net once. Goalkeepers Megan Humphrey and Payton Bohannon each played shutout soccer in the net.

The Lady Mustangs were passing the ball well in the road win. Lolonis had a game high four assists to go with her one goal. Albor dished out two assists while Carla Sanchez had one. Oakdale continued their road preseason with a game at Beyer High School on Tuesday, Dec. 12 following The Leader’s press time. The girls wrap up preseason action with two more road games; Friday, Dec. 15 at Venture Academy and Tuesday, Dec. 19 at Sonora. Oakdale opens the regular season at home against Manteca on Thursday, Dec. 21 with game time scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

Like their varsity counterparts, the JV Lady Mustangs crafted a 9-0 road victory Thursday at Riverbank in non-league action.

Oakdale’s junior varsity soccer girls have one more road preseason game remaining. The team will travel to Sonora to take on the Wildcats on Tuesday, Dec. 19 with game time scheduled for 11 a.m. before opening up Valley Oak League play at home against Manteca on Thursday, Dec. 21.

The varsity Mustang boys played one game this week. On Tuesday, Dec. 5 the team traveled to Turlock to take on the Pitman Pride. Coming off a long weekend tournament, Oakdale struggled to get in the groove and lost by a 2-0 final. Pitman scored both goals in the second half to defeat the Mustangs in non-league play.

“We were spent from a long tournament, that we played in Turlock just days before the game,” said head Coach Alfredo Quiroga. “We just did not have the energy to keep up with them.”

Oakdale closes out the preseason with a pair of home games this week.

On Monday, Dec. 11 the team hosted Galt, following The Leader’s press time. They will host Livingston on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 5:15 p.m.

Members of the JV boys soccer squad made the most of their one contest this past week. The JV team doubled up the Pride with a 4-2 road win. Goals by Sergio Millard, Caden Frazee, Dillon French and Brandon Martinez anchored the team’s win. Frazee had two assists in the win and Julian Renteria also had an assist. The boys will host Livingston on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
