Three Of Four Mustang Squads Win Track Meet

The sun was shining and temperatures peaked near 80 degrees on Thursday, March 16 as Oakdale hosted Sierra for a Valley Oak League track and field meet. Oakdale’s varsity girls won 79-56, the varsity boys fell 76-60, junior varsity girls won 77-46 and junior varsity boys won 75-58.

Oakdale’s varsity girls have now won 93 straight Valley Oak League meets with the win over Sierra. Samantha Nickerson took first place in the high jump as she cleared the pole at 4-10, Madison Abell leaped to a first place finish in the pole vault as she cleared 8-6. Taking the top honors for discus were first place finisher Kyndall Vargas (116-4) and in second place was Deonna Osmundson (100’10). Cassie England took first place in the triple jump at 33-9. Kayla Budine placed second in the long jump as she leaped 15-2.

The varsity boys may have lost but they put up some big performances in their efforts. In the shot put Jorge Barajas took first place with a throw of 48-3. Michael Everett placed second in the event at 47-2 and took first in the discus at 126-4. The boys also took first place in both the 4x100 and 4x400. In the 100 relay the team of Jacob Peterson, Francisco Vargas, Josh Jacobson and Carson Frazee raced their way to first place and in the 400 it was Peterson, Vargas, Cameron Burke and Justin Crescenti. Crescenti also took first in the high jump at 5-10.

In junior varsity action Anthony Martinez too first place in the boys 100 meter hurdles at 16.52. The speedy Martinez also took first in the boys 300 meter hurdles at 44.2 seconds and first in the 100 meter dash at 11.81. In girls junior varsity it was Melanie Jericoff that that took first place in two events: the 100 yard dash (13.69) and pole vault (6-6).

Oakdale will next host Kimball on Thursday, March 23 with a start time of 3:30 p.m. inside The Corral.
