Mixed results for the Oakdale Stampede in the 2016 Cencal Playoffs this past weekend. For both the varsity and junior varsity football teams, it was a home evening in the first round of the playoffs. Eight teams made the tournament, with four teams from the AFC and four NFC representatives making the cut. Oakdale’s varsity Stampede entered the tournament the number two seed in the AFC and played like the top ranked team. Oakdale plucked the third ranked Ceres Seahawks 46-12 Saturday night at The Corral on the Oakdale High School campus. Oakdale defeated Ceres in week four of the regular season 52-20. Next Saturday night the Stampede will travel to Buhach Colony to face the top seeded Thunder in the AFC Championship game. Earlier in the season, the Thunder defeated Oakdale 28-14. Both teams finished the regular season with a 9-1 record, 5-1 in AFC play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

A different result for the Oakdale junior varsity team as the number two seeded Stampede fell to the visiting three seeded Turlock Bulldogs 6-0. It was the first time since week seven (Oct. 8) that the Stampede has allowed any points. It was also the first time this season that Oakdale had been shut out. Oakdale ended the regular season on a five game winning streak. The JV Stampede squad finished the season with an impressive 9-1, 5-1 record and outscored their opponents 383-56.
