The pinnacle of California prep wrestling waged its toll on Oakdale High wrestlers on Friday, as all five California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships qualifiers suffered painful tournament elimination on the opening day.
Oakdale wrestlers combined for six first day victories, but struggled in waning rounds against the state’s toughest competitors.
Tyler Noon, who captured Sac-Joaquin Section Masters silver a week prior, was Oakdale’s best performer after a three-match win streak in the consolation bracket. He fell just 2-1 to Michael Behnke of Arlington in Friday’s final match to end one win short of qualifying for the second day.
Dustin Harris won two championship matches while Juan Garza claimed a victory in his first bout. Both were eliminated in their first consolation bracket match. Nico Colunga and Kyle Cupit both went 0-2.
