The 2018 Central California Association, LBC 46 USA Boxing Junior Olympics will be hosted at Oakdale High School this spring. The Boxing Development Center in Oakdale opened its doors this past winter and have already made a major impact in the city. With the support of local business owners, boxing fans and members of the community, a petition was formed to have The Cowboy Capital of the World host the prestigious Junior Olympics event.

“The community really took to the idea of Oakdale hosting the Junior Olympics,” said Coach Leo Pagcaliuagan.

‘Coach Leo’ and his partner Alfredo Perez took the signatures to Fresno in late January to submit a bid to have Oakdale host the event. President Frank Aleman was impressed with the amount of signatures and the quick impact that The Boxing Development Center has made in Oakdale and approved for the event to be held April 21 and April 22.

“We were very excited when we got the approval,” Coach Leo noted. “We want to give back to Oakdale. We want to support the town, the youth and local businesses. The most important thing for us is to give back to the community.”

In the short time The Boxing Development Center has been open, major boxing champions have come to the center for training including Marc Castro and Ana Julaton. This event will feature talented young boxers from throughout the region and will be held in the Main Gym at Oakdale High School.

The Leader will provide more details of the event as they are made available.
