The Mustangs golf team was on the road for a pair of Valley Oak League (VOL) matches this past week. They played Tuesday, April 1 against Manteca and Thursday, April 3 against Sierra, with both matches held at Manteca Park Golf Course. Oakdale walked away with a 242-257 victory against Manteca and just fell short 230-244 against Sierra.

Oakdale was faced with more than one opponent when they took on Manteca, as the team would play through tough weather conditions as well. With swirling winds and a heavy downpour of rain, the Mustangs still played well enough for the win. With Logan Schultz and Josh Barrera leading the way with a score of 47 each, and teammates contributing with their impressive scores Domenic Fauria (48) Dante Martin (49) and both Austin Steves and Zackary Tamburrino shooting 51, Oakdale secured the win. Manteca’s Brandon Ramirez sat on top of the leaderboard with a score of 45, while teammate Justin Morrish finished one stroke behind him with 46 for the Buffaloes.

Oakdale was back to the swing of things when they returned to Manteca Park Golf Course two days later, and although the weather was cooperative, the Timberwolves were not. Sierra’s Matt Rose shot a respectable 42 to help put Oakdale away. His teammates Chris Schmitz and Chuck Good contributed as the pair turned in a 44 scorecard each. Barrera swung his way to the top of the leaderboard for Oakdale as he shot an impressive 44. Schultz (48) Steves (49) Martin (51) Fauria (52) and Tamburrino (54) wrapped up Oakdale’s scorecards.

The team was slated to return to home action on Tuesday, April 8 when they clashed with VOL opponent Lathrop. They will head to Tracy Golf Course and Country Club Thursday, April 10 to take on Kimball.
