Mustang Varsity Boys Fall In Lone Game Of The Week

It was a light schedule for the Oakdale boys basketball program this past week. The three levels of Mustang hoopsters traveled to Merced to take on the Bears on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

For the varsity it was a 46-38 road loss. Oakdale had a 9-8 lead after the first quarter but was outscored 31-22 in the second and third quarters combined. Drew Legan led the team with 17 points for the Mustangs. Wyatt Waterworth was the next leading scorer for Oakdale with eight points. The Mustangs struggled from the free throw line, as they went 1-for-7 as a team from the charity stripe.

On Monday, Dec. 18 the team traveled to Atwater to take on the Falcons. The non-conference game was played following The Leader’s press time. Prior to tipoff of that game Oakdale held a 3-3 record and will host Riverbank on Wednesday, Dec. 20 with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

Friday night the team will travel to Livermore with a 7 p.m. tipoff time scheduled. Next week the team will be hosting its 48th annual Oakdale Rotary Classic with Oakdale taking the court at 8 p.m. against Los Banos on Dec. 27. League play for the Mustangs begins Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Kimball.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale made the trip down south to take on the Merced Bears and fell behind early. The JV boys trailed 22-9 after the first quarter and never got back into the game. Oakdale lost the road contest 60-31. Down 32-15 at the half, the team came out of the locker room focused and outscored the Bears 12-11 in the third quarter but only managed to score six points in the fourth. The leading scorer for Oakdale was Jonah Norman with 11 points. Norman also pulled down three rebounds and had two assists and a block. Oakdale will host Riverbank on Wednesday, December 20 at 4:30 p.m. The team will also host the Oakdale Rotary Classic beginning Wednesday, Dec. 27 when they take the court at 2 p.m.

 

FRESHMEN

In a thrilling 44-41 road win over the Merced Bears, Carson Crip scored a game high 14 points for the youngest Mustang hoopsters. Izayah Perez and Zack Alosio had seven points each and Gage Brink added nine points. Oakdale will host Riverbank on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m., then will travel to Davis High School for a three-day Freshman Tournament beginning Tuesday, Dec. 26.
