Ryan Jones shot a 75 at the par-72 Diablo Grande Country Club on April 30 to lead Oakdale High’s boys golf team to a one-sided Valley Oak League Finals victory and sole rights to the conference title.

Jones was followed by a pair of 77-stroke scores from Isaac Rellamas and Ian Stogdell, who finished as third-place individuals. Vince Fauria added an 89 while Michael Tripp ended in 90 strokes and Robby Wikoff in 96. Oakdale’s score of 409 was 17 strokes better than any other team.

“I was pretty happy to get three guys in the top three scores recorded,” Oakdale coach Lee McGhee said at Oakdale’s Friday practice at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. “Some guys shot higher than they wanted, but they have a chance to bring their scores down.”

Oakdale qualified as a team to the Division IV Championships, which were held Tuesday at the Diablo Grande Golf and Country Club in Patterson, though results weren’t available at press time. East Union (426) and Kimball (458) also qualified while six individuals across the league saw advancements.

The D-IV champions are represented by the top three teams and individuals from the VOL, Western Athletic Conference and Sierra Valley Conference.

Oakdale won the D-IV championship a season ago and returns Stogdell, Rellamas, Tripp and Jones from their 2011 lineup.
