Tuesday, May 18 marked the start of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV girls soccer playoffs, though results were not available at press time to highlight Oakdale High’s first round bout with top-seeded West Campus. The varsity Lady Mustangs made the trip to Sacramento to take on the Capital Valley Conference champions after an 18-3-5 overall showing and 11-1-4 journey through the Valley Oak League.Oakdale was easily the hottest team in the second half of league play, but early season ties forced the Mustangs to settle for third place overall (tiebreaker with Manteca) in the league standings. The position means Oakdale will not play a home playoff game, regardless of Tuesday’s outcome.A win would have positioned the team to see either Colfax or Manteca for Thursday’s second round.West Campus (13-0-1 CVC, 19-1-1) entered the Tuesday opener on the momentum of 19 straight games without a defeat. The team closed the year with a 7-0 shellacking of Rio Linda.
