Kent Qualifies For National Finals

Travis Kent, a senior at Valley Oak Charter School of Oakdale, has qualified for the 68th annual National High School Finals Rodeo. Known as “The World’s Largest Rodeo” the weeklong event begins July 17 and wraps up on July 23 in Gillette, Wyoming.

Nearly 1,650 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian Provinces and Australia will be competing in the rodeo. Kent qualified for the finals in the team roping competition.

With over $200,000 in prizes available, contestants are also competing for over $350,000 in college scholarships in the name of NHSFR World Champion. To earn a scholarship Kent will have to finish in the top 20 based on his combined score/times in the first two rounds, and World Championships will be decided in the third and final round.

To watch Kent in action tune into RFD-TV or stream it live on NHSRATV.com. Performance times are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 17 and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day following.
