Spring sports are winding down on the campus of Oakdale High School, but there are still a handful of teams in the postseason. Recent action saw the golf boys nail down a huge win, while the varsity baseball team fell in the opening round of the playoffs. Softball, track and field, and tennis are busy as well. Here is a recap of the competition.

GOLF BOYS

It was a Section title for the Oakdale Mustang golf boys, as they put together a tremendous outing at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Chowchilla on Monday, May 4.

The boys competed for the California Interscholastic Federation – Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 Section Championship at the par 72 course and earned the coveted blue banner.

Oakdale turned in a team score of 384, a score that allowed them to narrowly defeat second place Twelve Bridges of Lincoln, who shot a 389. Merced and Rodriguez, out of Fairfield, finished tied for third place with team scores of 396.

The Mustang effort was led once again by standout junior Estuardo Duque.

“Estuardo carded a low round 64 which is eight under par,” said head coach Jeremy Fields. “He was four strokes shy of the course record. Estuardo finished as the medalist and individual section champion.”

Oakdale also got great scores from fellow juniors Fred Herschbach and Brody Boysen shooting 77s, Fields added, while Easton Thalman and freshman Nik Nalder turned in 83s, and Julian Velazquez finished with an 84.

Oakdale next plays in the CIF Masters tournament, to be held at The Reserve -Spanos Park in Stockton on Tuesday, May 19.

BASEBALL

It was, unfortunately, a “one and done” for Oakdale’s varsity baseball team in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 playoffs. Going in as the number six seed, Oakdale hosted number 11 Del Campo out of Fair Oaks on Wednesday, May 6, but found themselves on the losing end of the 11-4 final score.

Del Campo jumped on top early, roughing up the Mustangs with a six-run top of the first; the home team could never quite get all those runs back. The Del Campo Cougars would go on to add single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings and put the game out of reach with two runs in the seventh. They rapped out 17 hits on the day.

Oakdale got single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, then added two in the sixth. They had eight hits but also hurt themselves with two errors.

Bas Stice had a solo home run for Oakdale and also had two other hits, scoring two runs on the afternoon. Peyton Wallace had a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Also collecting hits were Griffin Costa, Kane Gray and Chance Ravalin. Gray and Eric Velasquez also scored runs for Oakdale.

The varsity boys had an 11-7 record in the Valley Oak League this season, finishing fourth, and went 18-10 overall.

SOFTBALL

The 2026 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section softball playoffs have arrived. Wednesday, May 13 the Oakdale High School Lady Mustangs will host Placer in the first round. Oakdale, as the three seed in Division 4, welcomes number 14 seed Placer, with a start time of 4 p.m.

Oakdale finished the regular season with a record of 9-3 in the Valley Oak League and finished in second place behind undefeated Central Catholic. As for Placer, they finished with a record of 4-6 in their league.

Others in the Division 4 bracket are Pioneer, which has a first round bye as the top seed; East Union, Yuba City, Wood, Oakmont, Rio Linda, Nevada Union, Del Campo, Los Banos, Roseville, Lindhurst, Central Catholic and Lathrop. Should Oakdale be victorious in the first round, they would move on to the quarterfinals and take on the winner of the number six Del Campo-number 11 Los Banos first round match up. The game would be played at Oakdale on Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m.

TRACK AND FIELD

After multiple athletes had solid performances at the Valley Oak League championships on April 30, they are now gearing up for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 championship trials. Events are scheduled to be hosted at Manteca High School on Wednesday, May 13 with an early afternoon start. Oakdale’s varsity girls and boys will be well represented at the D3 Section trials, as the varsity girls claimed the championship of the VOL and the boys were second.

Those qualifying at the trials in their events move on to the D3 finals on Saturday, May 16 with that competition set in Sacramento, at Hughes Stadium.

BOYS TENNIS

Postseason play for the Oakdale tennis team included a quarterfinal victory on May 5, as the Mustangs hosted Lathrop and came away with an 8-1 victory, just missing out on a sweep of the Spartans.

The boys were scheduled to travel to Roseville to take on the Roseville Tigers in the semifinal round on May 7 but information from that match was not available at press time.
