Dear Editor,

Friends of the Library book sale, what a smashing success! Almost 8,000 books donated by members of our community, to be resold and circulated within the community and to the pleasure and entertainment of hundreds of people both young and old.

What an opportunity for people who probably, normally, could not afford to purchase a hard cover book for $15 to $18, one dollar at our sale and paperbacks for 50 cents, or pick up some old classics that are still out there. Many of our customers, I am sure, cannot afford an E-reader like a Kindle for example, so our sale provides a great service to those customers.

The money generated by the sale, donations from organizations like Oakdale Rotary and Oakdale Irrigation District, Oakdale Lions Club, and membership dues, will allow our local Library to continue to grow its customer base and provide entertainment and educational opportunities for our community.

Go to our Library, it is exploding with excitement, enthusiasm and participation. I encourage you to bring your children, your grandchildren and observe and participate in such programs as Crazy 8s math, Lego Days, 1,000 books before kindergarten, Read Across America, Adult Book Club, Introduction to Mathematics and beginning soon, summer reading programs. The Library is fired up and you can be too.

Thanks to the City of Oakdale and Mayor Pat Paul for your cooperation and participation. Thanks to Friends of the Library, its Board of Directors, and all those people who supported this worthwhile project.

Frank Clark,

Event Chairperson
