Erma Chappell, 95, died Friday, May 9 at her Oakdale home.

She was born in Stockton to Michael and Rosie Misasi but has lived in Oakdale since 1943.

She was known as the “Honorary Mayor of Oakdale” for many years and had recently celebrated her 95th birthday with her family and friends at Oakdale Country Club.

Many residents may remember her putting around town in her little red Honda with the “Erma Luv” license plates or walking around town on her daily jaunts. She was the longest active member of the Oakdale Women’s Club, having been a member for 70 years.

Mrs. Chappell will long be remembered for her style and boundless energy and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family thanks all who picked her up on her daily walks and drove her safely home. They also thank Ricks and Emlynn Falks, Kris Cowan and the folks at the Corner Café, as they all made her life better in the last few years.

She is survived by her son, Lynn A. (Joellen) Chappell of Oakdale; sister, Vera Estrada; grandchildren, Kyle Chappell and partner Mark Flores of Lodi; Brandon Chappell and Diane of Franklin, Wisc.; Courtney (Joe) Vidal of LaHabra; Tyler Chappell of Modesto; Jackie (Guy) Major of Oakland; and three great-grandchildren, Bodhi Chappell, Sophia Vidal and Riley Major.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George W. Chappell.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17 at Oaklawn Memorial Park, 421 N. Sierra, on the corner of A Street, Oakdale. A reception will follow at Firenze’s Restaurant.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oakdale Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 146, Oakdale, CA 95361.
