Salmon Artwork Sought For 2018 Poster Contest
Knights Ferry

The 2017 Stanislaus River Salmon Festival Committee is once again hosting an art contest in conjunction with the 2017 Stanislaus River Festival. The Festival is planned for Saturday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Stanislaus River Park, Knights Ferry.

Young artists are encouraged to celebrate the annual return of Chinook salmon to the Stanislaus River through participation in the Salmon Festival Art Contest.

Artwork should reflect the theme “Through the Eyes of Salmon.” In creating the artwork, students are encouraged to illustrate what a salmon sees either in the water or above the water, such as other living things in the habitat. Contest officials hope while drawing or painting pictures about salmon that students will also learn more about their biology and importance.

Outstanding artwork will be chosen for and printed in the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival 2018 Calendar. In addition, prizes will be presented to the chosen artists during the Stanislaus River Salmon Festival on Saturday, Nov. 11.

All kindergarten through eighth grade students attending school or residing in communities near the lower Stanislaus River, including Knights Ferry, Oakdale, Riverbank, Valley Home, Escalon, Salida, Ripon, Jamestown, Sonora and Columbia may participate. Artwork is due Wednesday, Oct. 25 must comply with the Art Contest Rules.

The rules include: each entry must be the original work of the contestant; use pencil, pen, paint, torn paper, glitter, or other art media; use 9-by-12 or 8½-by-11 inch paper or poster board for artwork.

Also, artwork should be completed with the long axis of the paper on the horizontal; artwork should be in color; copyrighted, syndicated or clip art images are not allowed; computer or copy machine aided entries are not allowed.

Each participant may submit only one entry. Entries may be delivered directly to: Salmon Festival Art Contest, Attention: Lisa Dolling, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Stanislaus River Parks, 17968 Covered Bridge Road, Oakdale, CA 95361.
