Community Closet event returns to Bianchi Center
819 OES

For the ninth year, those in need in and around the Oakdale community will have an opportunity to do some ‘shopping’ later this month.

The Oakdale Enrichment Society, OES, will be hosting its Community Closet event on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 9 am. to noon.

Donations of gently used clothing are being sought and the drop off days are set for Monday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gene Bianchi Commnity Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale.

Clothing is needed for men and women, boys and girls, with volunteers taking in the donations during the ‘prep week’ and then getting them organized for the Aug. 29 distribution, which will also be staged at the Bianchi Center.

The Commnity Closet will offer up school clothes, causal wear, business attire, coats and warm outerwear for the chilly days ahead, and more. Clothing will be grouped by size and gender.

Also this year, officials said they are also looking for donations of gently used books, especially those for children.

There is no charge for those attending the Community Closet event; all items are free for the taking and have been donated by fellow community members.

The goal, said OES officials is to “Spread The Love” and help those in the community add needed items to their wardrobe.
