Novice runner Matt Terry has taken his newly acquired passion and quite literally, he’s run with it.
The Oakdale resident began Oakdale Running Company, a local running group aimed at bringing Oakdale locals together. To aid with the launch of his running group he chose to utilize the social media tool Meetup.
“Our club is completely free to join and there is never any pressure when it comes to meetups,” Terry said via e-mail. “Everyone is very supportive of one another, and we all understand what it’s like to have a busy schedule.”
To date the group has met primarily in the early morning hours, to both beat the heat and accommodate its members. In late July several of the group traveled to Santa Cruz to participate in the 44th Annual Wharf to Wharf Race. Terry noted that while the group was small in the overall field of over 16,000 participants, it was nice to represent the Oakdale community and the newly formed group.
“Although I never saw myself starting a running club,” Terry stated, “I know that this was something needed here in Oakdale. Our group of runners are all local residents who all share some common goals; a healthier lifestyle, a higher level of fitness and of course having some fun along the way.”
