Hillside Rescue At Park
Oakdale Fire

Oakdale fire and rescue crews responded to Valley View Park on Sunday, Oct. 20 regarding a 17-year-old male that had fallen down the hillside toward the river.

Oakdale Fire Captain Dan Cummins said crews were notified at 2:18 p.m. of a “man down” at the edge of the Stanislaus River near Valley View Park. When they arrived, rescue personnel found that the subject had fallen from the edge of the park. His injuries prevented him from climbing back up the hill.

“The crews felt it was best to lower him to a rescue boat on the river,” Cummins said. “From there he was transported to the Oakdale Recreation Area off Liberini Avenue and transported by ambulance.”

Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District Battalion Chief Kevin Wise estimated the subject fell 80 to 100 feet before coming to rest on the edge of the hill. According to Wise, the 17-year old sustained a shoulder and ankle injury which were non-life threatening.
