Foothill Horizons Outdoor School will host an Open House on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their Sonora site. There is no fee to participate.

Operated by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE), this event is geared towards parents whose children have attended or will attend Foothill Horizons Outdoor School. This is also an opportunity for parents to evaluate Foothill Horizons as a place to send their children to summer camp during the summer of 2018. Foothill staff will take participants on tours of the facilities and answer questions regarding curriculum, health care, discipline, meals and supervision. Foothill Horizons is also available for rental. Visit during the open house to learn more about renting the site for weddings, parties, retreats and more.

Approximately 7,000 students visit Foothill Horizons each school year. According to Director Jessica Hewitt, outdoor education provides a comprehensive educational program for children while nurturing an appreciation for the natural environment. During their stay, students participate in curriculum based on the science standards, including classes in ecology, geology, conservation, discovery techniques, and Me-Wuk Indian culture. Students also enjoy field trips to a local cavern and to a Giant Sequoia grove.

Participants should wear casual clothing and comfortable shoes. For additional information, including directions, visit the website www.foothillhorizons.com, or call 209-532-6673.
