Christmas Child

This is National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child, with the local collection site at The River Christian Community, 1351 E. G St., Oakdale. Hours for people to drop off their shoeboxes, packed with items for youngsters to make the holidays brighter, are Wednesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 17, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 18, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 19, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and finally, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

 

String Recital

Modesto Junior College Department of Music will present a Fall String Recital on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on the East Campus. The students of Anne Martin, director of orchestra and strings at MJC, will perform solo works by Bach, Dancla, Handel and Roggen. Toastmasters Meet

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 23. Holiday Fundraiser

The Stanislaus Senior Foundation will host its Annual Holiday Fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be held at the historic McHenry Museum, 1402 I St., Modesto. Hors d’oeuvres, wine and a silent auction will be offered for those in attendance. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased on line at www.stanislausseniorfoundation.org or by calling 848-2635.
