Oakdale Plaque

Accordion Session

The Good Time Accordion Club monthly music and social is set for this evening, Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Escalon Community Center, 1055 Escalon Ave., Escalon. Accordion fans and performers of all skill levels are welcome, admission is $5 at the door. This month’s featured performer from Las Vegas is Joe Vento of The Three Sons. Halloween Fun

Come and enjoy an early Halloween ‘spooktacular’ on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Valley Home. The community welcomes all to their annual Halloween event, with some activities at Valley Home School and others in the nearby pumpkin. There will be food to purchase for dinner and to take home, silent auction, games, costume fun, hay rides, a haunted house, pumpkin decorating contests, games and more, with visits from emergency services personnel as well. Festivities run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

 

Driving Course

AARP Driver Safety Foundation is offering a two-day Senior Driving Course at Oak Valley Community Hospital meeting rooms, 1425 W. H St., Oakdale on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-register at 209-847-5121. Class size is limited; cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. Checks are preferred.

 

Art Show Set

Oak Valley Art Society is getting prepared for its annual Fall Art Show on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 15 and 16. It is a member-only show, but the art society is gladly taking new members. Mediums are Oil, Acrylic, Water Media, Drawing, Pastels, Graphics, Photography, and Sculpture. Youth submissions are welcome in all mediums. For more information, call Evelyn Cooper at 838-3095.

 

Relay Color Runs

All are encouraged to join in the fun and support the cause, as the Ceres Relay For Life is hosting a Color Run – Walk – Crawl on Saturday, Oct. 15. The event will be staged at the Sheriff’s Regional Training Center, 3805 Cornucopia Way in Modesto. Hours for the event are 9 a.m. to noon; vendor booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit www.relayforlife.org for more information. Hughson Relay For Life will host a 5k Color Fun Run-Walk on Saturday, Nov. 5 with that event starting at the corner of Hughson Avenue and Charles in Hughson. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the event at 9 a.m.; registration is $30. You can also purchase a balloon in honor of someone battling cancer or in memory of someone who has passed. Arena Benefit Shoot

The second annual ‘Shooting for the Stable’ Benefit sponsored by Healing Arenas, Inc. is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Escalon Sportsman’s Club on River Road. Included in the day’s events will be a Trapshoot Competition in memory of HM3 Justin Williams starting at 3 p.m. for teams, with Youth, Men’s and Women’s divisions. The Championship Team Round and Social Hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner at 7 p.m., with prize drawings and a live auction as well.

Speechtrain Session

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 19.
