A simple idea and pride in one’s property is all it took for Shelly Coite to decide to host Boutique at the Barn, this coming Saturday, Sept. 22. The Oakdale resident shared the idea for the event came about from a conversation with her mother earlier this year, as they reflected on the work and improvements she and her husband had made to the 10-acre spread.

“At first I was kind of nervous,” Coite said of the event, once she launched the idea in the spring. “I didn’t think I would have enough vendors and now I’m turning people away.”

Boutique at the Barn will be hosted at Coite’s property at 30999 Grooms Road, Oakdale this Saturday. Event time will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 42 vendors in attendance.

While more have expressed interest, the organizer shared they were turned away so as not to have a shortage of space.

“We’ll have a large variety of things,” she said.

Items offered are expected to include home décor, antiques, gift items, sweet treats, pre-packaged food items and a variety of eclectic offerings. Food vendors will also be on site for those interested in a cup of coffee or a bite to eat while attending.

Coite shared there is potential to make the event an annual occurrence if all goes well. Preparations and event day activities will be made possible thanks largely in part to the help of friends and family.

“I’m excited just to share our ranch,” she stated. “A lot of work has gone into it. We’ve done everything. Why not share it with others.”
