The Oakdale community came out Tuesday, May 17 to celebrate the Amgen Tour of California bicycle event as hundreds of riders whooshed through the heart of town in a fast and furious bid to reach the sprint line finish (a special award would be given to the rider who crossed first during this leg of the race). Volunteers spent hours training for this specialized event and were identified by their bright yellow jackets. They helped ensure spectator and rider safety during the event. Hudson Photography was high in the sky to capture the event for next year’s phonebook and there were several event-sanctioned photographers riding on the back of motorcycles to catch the event from all angles. The brightly colored logo-splashed support vehicles brought up the rear of the convoy, making for a thrilling — albeit short — event for the local leg of the race.
