Knights Ferry News 4-10-19

The sun was shining while Main Street Knights Ferry was detoured most of the day on Saturday, April 6 for the 5th Knights Ferry Classic Car Show. Miles Shuper and Chris Peterson coordinated the successful fundraiser. Car Show participants lined up as early as 5:30 a.m. to park their vehicles and break out their cleaning tools to make sure their cars were perfect for the judges! There were over 150 cars parked from the Washington Hotel all the way down to the River’s Edge. One of the goals for the coordinators was to keep the food, drinks, and shops local so they chose not to bring in outside vendors for the day. The Fire Department had their signature tri-tip sandwiches, the line to the Creamery was out the door and there was no shortage of drinks served at the River’s Edge and the General Store! The coordinators presented numerous awards such as “Best Engine” and “Most Unique” and announced the winners of the raffle prizes. There was a band playing lively music in the middle of town and was only upstaged for a short time when various cars in the show started revving their engines and it seemed that one was trying to outdo the other! Talk about boys and their toys!

The Craft Bazaar was a Church fundraiser and featured hand made crafts and baked goods. Tara Russell donated a variety of delicious scones and there were a few pieces of artwork by Betty (Roebuck) Irvine. All proceeds of the Bazaar will benefit future renovations to the Church. The Odd Fellows Encampment hosted a delicious pancake breakfast and kept busy feeding the Car Show participants and early risers.

A personal highlight of the day was briefly meeting a man named William Barker. William attended Knights Ferry School after he came home from WWII, he never had the chance to come to Knights Ferry to visit so he came out for the car show.
