Sunday was a beautiful day for a ride around Knights Ferry. The hills were green with puffy white almond trees blooming. The Coast Range was coated with snow. Lisa Dolling’s pond had her returning Canadian Geese swimming with the mud hens. Daffodils and flowering quince were blooming. The town’s violets were a carpet of purple. Those violets came to the Ferry through the open water system many years ago, the seeds spreading through the yards. A nice way to end the ride was at the ice cream parlor!

Unfortunately Sonora Road was closed for a while Sunday as a very large part of a hill gave way and fell into the road. The two clumps of dirt were each as big as a Volkswagen. This hillside is composed of layers of volcanic ash and debris. There was a tree in the mess that had to be removed also. Thanks for the call on this John.

Knights Ferry School held a Patriotic Assembly on Friday, before their week winter recess. Each classroom did a patriotic project. The assembly started with the flag pledge and its explanation. The Junior High showed projects they had made including flag Jello, decorated shirt, diorama, model of the White House done in Popsicle sticks, and others. Madeline Freitas told about the 5th - 6th grade project, designed postage stamps for each state. Emma Fallentine told about the 3rd - 4th grade project, each student painted the Statue Of Liberty, displayed around the room, and what it meant. Dylan Baker told of the flags the second graders painted. Breanna Banks, Sophie Thompson and Dakota Voortman explained the first grade project. Then the Kindergarteners, with hats, flags on the front of them and George on their backs, sang, “You’re a Grand Old Flag.” It was a very patriotic afternoon.

Remember tickets are on sale for the school’s PTC’s Silent/Live Auction and Dinner. They are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Dinner includes New York steak, baked potato, salad, fruit, bread, dessert and wine. This is to support the Knights Ferry School.
