Recently the Oakdale High School wrestling team traveled to Nevada for the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. Half a dozen wrestlers returned with medals and one earned a championship. The following grapplers competed in the tournament and placed in the top six.

Seth Borba won his finals match via decision to claim the 162-pound championship. Alan Casey placed second in the 108-pound bracket while Ceasar Garza placed second overall at 154 pounds. Mike Torres placed third overall in the 115-pound bracket and Clayton Bashor came away with fourth place honors in the 128-pound bracket. Jonathan Hernandez rounded out the medals for Oakdale as he placed sixth overall, losing his final match by decision in the medal round in the 122-pound bracket.

Other wrestlers competing in the tournament representing the Mustangs were Jordan Van Rys, Spencer Von Savoy, Colton Silva, Ben Molina, Brock Osmundson, Alfonso Ramirez, Geno Serale, Garrison Gerber, Sam Neely, Brayden Abell and Francisco Perez.

Oakdale has enjoyed some much needed and deserved time off but will return to the mats on Jan. 3 and 4 for the Doc Buchanan Invitational in Clovis and others from the team will compete in Escalon for the Lloyd C. Engel Invitational. Both tournaments are scheduled for 9 a.m.
