Varsity Hoop Girls Collect Twin Wins

The Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team earned a pair of league wins this past week, their first of the 2019-2020 campaign. On Tuesday, Jan.14 the girls defeated Central Catholic on the road 57-51. Oakdale followed that up with a 56-46 home win over Weston Ranch on Thursday night, Jan. 16.

Against Central Catholic, Halena Hill scored 13 points and Aidyn Hill added a dozen. Maddy Jones scored nine and Alexia Martin had eight. Jones was a force to be reckoned with as she powered her way for 24 rebounds against the Raiders. She also had a blocked shot. Afton Daley had four steals for Oakdale.

With the wins Oakdale improved to 14-6 overall and 2-3 in the Valley Oak League. Oakdale is currently in fourth place midway through the season.

On Tuesday evening the girls were scheduled to travel to Tracy to face Valley Oak League leader Kimball (17-4, 5-0). The game was held following The Leader’s press time. On Thursday night the girls will travel to Manteca to face second place East Union (18-4, 5-1). Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The junior varsity defeated Central Catholic 56-31 and the freshman team defeated Weston Ranch 32-29.
