The 2025 regular season began on Friday, Sept. 19. That night, the Oakdale High School varsity football team traveled to Mountain House to take on the “other” Mustangs. Oakdale used a 42-point first half to pull away from Mountain House and won by a final score of 49-0.

On the opening drive, Mountain House faced a fourth-and-10 from the Oakdale 43 but Erin Foster’s pass fell incomplete and resulted in a turnover on downs. Oakdale capitalized on the miscue and moments later Richard Flores scored the first points of the night on a 22-yard rushing touchdown to put Oakdale up 7-0. The Mustangs doubled their lead when Chase Lopez scored on a 12-yard rushing touchdown on Oakdale’s second drive of the night.

The Mustang defense also continued to shine in the second quarter. Mountain House attempted a fourth-and-six from midfield but once again the pass was incomplete. The very next play Wes Burford broke free for a 50-yard touchdown to give Oakdale a 21-0 advantage in the second quarter. The rout continued when Flores scored from 20 yards out on a rush to extend the advantage to 28-0. Burford displayed his power on defense as well as on the ensuing Mountain House drive, that pinned them inside their own 10-yard line, Burford broke through the offensive line and wrapped up Foster, causing a fumble. The next play saw quarterback Grant Gardner connect with Eli Briseno to give Oakdale a 35-0 lead in the second quarter. Just before halftime Oakdale scored on a Lopez 23-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 42-0 lead.

Scoring was at a minimum in the second half, as it was a running clock. The teams played a scoreless third quarter and the only score of the second half came when Anthony Navarro rushed one in from 19 yards out for Oakdale, making the final 49-0.

“Happy with the way we played,” said head coach Garrett Martin.

Oakdale has its bye week and will return to The Corral on Oct. 3 to take on East Union.

“Great time to have a bye to prepare for the last five weeks of league,” Martin added. “We have a very good team in East Union coming … so we will turn our focus on that.”

The JV boys opened up their league schedule with a decisive 48-22 win over Mountain House on the road Sept. 19 while the freshmen hosted Mountain House on Thursday, Sept. 18 and upended the visitors, 28-6.
