Fantasy Football: What league is right for me?

The National Football League preseason is in one month. Which means, we are in the midst of fantasy football season. There are several options when it comes to choosing what league is the best for you. Some things to consider include, “How much is the buy in?”; scoring system format, “Is it Points Per Reception (PPR)?”; “Is it a dynasty league?”, among other specifics.

Here is a quick breakdown of each league.

For dynasty leagues, this is a long-term league. Typically, the league is set up for five years. You draft your players and keep them long term. At the conclusion of the season, a rookie draft is held. This is where each team adds the incoming rookies. In order to make roster spots for them you must drop players from your current roster to keep it to the roster limit. I joined a dynasty league four years ago and I really enjoy it. My rookie draft is scheduled for later this month.

A traditional league is where you conduct a draft and you keep these players for just the upcoming season. This is my favorite type of league to compete in and it is the best way to start off your fantasy experience. As long as the buy in is not more than your budget permits. Always stay within your budget; never go over the budget.

An auction league is where each team owner is given a budget in Free Agency Budget (FAB). Usually you get about $2,000 to set your roster. The most expensive players for the upcoming season are expected to be Bijan Robinson, Josh Allen, Ja’Mar Chase, Lamar Jackson and Jemir Gibbs. While $2,000 may seem like a lot, it goes fast and you need to make sure you have enough to fill your roster completely. You never want to leave any money on the table. A formula to look into is never go over $50 on a single player.

These are just a few leagues that you can join. Please play fantasy football responsibly.
