Two wins, one loss for varsity soccer girls

Splitting two games this past week, Oakdale’s varsity soccer girls then enjoyed a win on their Senior Night.

First up, on Wednesday, Jan. 29 the Lady Mustangs traveled to Manteca to face Sierra. Oakdale fell to the Timberwolves 2-1 but regrouped and came away with a 3-1 road win at Central Catholic on Friday night, Jan. 31.

In the showdown in Sierra, it was a scoreless first half. Scoring the lone goal for Oakdale was freshman Ashlyn Splettstoesser from an assist by sophomore Dakota Burford. Senior Avery Alves had three saves as goalkeeper for Oakdale. Sierra netted two goals in the second half.

In their only match of the week, Oakdale’s junior varsity team lost to Sierra 8-1.

Against Central Catholic, it was tied 1-1 at the end of the first half, but Oakdale scored a pair of unanswered goals to pick up the varsity win. Freshman Kaia Cox scored two goals and senior Jocelyn Gradilla had the other Mustang goal. Gradilla also had an assist. It was split duty in the net for the Mustangs as Alves and Cassidy Mitchell shared time at goaltender. Mitchell had one save while Alves had three and surrendered one goal.

Monday night, Feb. 3 Oakdale hosted Patterson for Senior Night 2025 and recognized their senior players and celebrated the night with a shutout win, 3-0. Scoring for Oakdale were Kaia Cox, Lyndee Cox and Burford with one assist each from Mitchell and Splettstoesser. Alves registered four saves in goal; Burford had one.

The Lady Mustangs stood in second place, 8-1-1, following Monday night’s contest, trailing the 9-1 Sierra Timberwolves.

Seniors honored were Avery Alves, Peyton Long, Jocelyn Gradilla, Lyndee Cox, Kyra Binstock, and Kyleigh Melconian.
