The 2025 season has come to an end for Oakdale High School softball and baseball.
Track and field athletes, meanwhile, were busy this past week with Section final competition in Merced. Following is a look at the action.
SOFTBALL
The Lady Mustangs of Oakdale were the fifth seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 3 softball playoffs. In the first round Oakdale defeated the number 12 seed, Bear Creek, 7-0. The game took place on May 14. Jaelyn Lee hit a home run to help power Oakdale to the first-round victory. The Mustangs had 10 total hits in the win; Lee, Briley Everett and Reese Donaldson led the team with two hits each. Lee pitched a complete game shutout. She only gave up one hit and walked three. She also struck out 11 batters.
On Friday, May 16 Oakdale lost to Manteca, the four seed, by a final score of 8-1. The loss in the quarterfinal match knocked Oakdale out of the playoffs.
Scoring a run in the top of the first inning, the lead was short-lived as Oakdale gave up six runs in the second and could not regroup. Katee Conde drove in the team’s only run when she brought in Jayci Volonte. Lee and Emily Thomason pitched for Oakdale. Lee pitched one complete inning and gave up four earned runs on one hit. She also walked five. Thomason pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs and struck out five.
During the regular season Oakdale split their two games with Manteca. They lost 4-2 on April 2 and earned a 10-8 victory on April 29. The playoff loss ended Oakdale’s season; the varsity girls were 7-5 in Valley Oak Leage play and finished 15-11 overall.
BASEBALL
The Oakdale High School baseball team bowed out of the playoffs this past week. In the two-out-of-three semifinal round series of the postseason, Oakdale dropped two straight games to Roseville. In game one Oakdale fell to the Tigers by a lopsided 13-1 decision, then lost a game two heartbreaker, 2-1, in extra innings.
The 2025 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division 4 playoffs saw the Mustangs go in as the number two seed. They shut out number 15 seed Los Banos in the opening round and edged out number seven East Union in the quarterfinals, 8-5.
Then it was on to the semifinals, where it takes two wins to claim the series. The number two Mustangs lost in two straight to the number three seed Roseville Tigers.
In game one Oakdale fell behind 6-0 in the second inning and never regrouped. Oakdale had four hits in the loss as Jordan Haver had two hits, and Griffin Costa and Ayden Ardis also had a hit. Ardis started the game for Oakdale on the mound and gave up four earned runs on four hits and walked three. Niki Jones pitched three-and-a-third innings and gave up seven earned runs and struck out four batters.
In game two Oakdale trailed 1-0 heading into the seventh inning. Bas Stice tied the game with an RBI single that scored Gavin Wyatt. The game ended in the ninth inning as Roseville scratched out the winning run, sending Oakdale home for the season.
“I am proud of the boys and their season,” said coach Joey Machado. “They trusted in the process and worked hard. All year long I told the guys that the only crew I cared the most about was us. They love each other and played hard for each other from the beginning to the end.”
Oakdale finished the season with a 21-11 overall mark; they were second in the VOL with a 13-5 record.
