Baseball Players Honored For Seasons Contributions

All three levels of Oakdale High School baseball teams and their players were honored on Tuesday, May 26, saluted for their efforts during the season. Coaches, players, family and friends gathered at the OHS main gym Tuesday evening for the end of the season awards ceremony for the Mustangs.

Starting the evening off was Julian Velasquez winning the Defensive Player of the Year award for the freshman team. His teammates Dakota McNeil, Josh Johnston, and Corey Hinojosa were also honored. McNeil was named Best Pitcher; Johnston was awarded as Best Offensive Player and Hinojosa took home the team’s top honor as Most Valuable Player.

The 2015 Valley Oak League champion junior varsity boys were next to be honored. Head coach Scott Gehl praised his team’s championship run, which was capped off by the team winning eight consecutive games to end the season. Collin Harrity was named the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Cullen Bearden was named Offensive Player of the Year. Pitcher Vito Rodin took home the Pitcher of the Year, and Blake Maddock was named Most Valuable Player.

Headlining the evening was the varsity team, and the final farewell to the team’s five seniors. Tanner Emes was presented with the team’s first award, where he was named Pitcher of the Year. The Mr. Mustang award went to second baseman, Sean Gingerrich. Catcher Bryce Kirk was acknowledged as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Senior Nolen Legan was honored as the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. Taking home the team’s top honor as Most Valuable Player was senior Wade Branch.
