Competing far from home, seven Oakdale Youth Wrestling Club wrestlers took on some of the best young talent in the nation at the Tulsa Nationals in Oklahoma on Jan. 21 and 22.

The event, formerly used as a Junior Olympic competition and considered the toughest youth wrestling tournament in the country, resulted in four medals for Oakdale grapplers.

Logan Eaton (third at 75 pounds, 15-and-under), Colbey Harlan (third at 76, 10-and-under), Jake Ryan (fourth at 105, 12-and-under) and Nico Colunga (fifth at 89, 15-and-under) all landed medals at the prestigious event.

The Oakdale Youth Wrestling Club competitors and coaches who made the trip earn a collective Athlete of the Week nod from The Leader for their spectacular performance on the national stage.

The group was coached by Abel Colunga and Steve Strange, and assisted by a handful of dedicated parents who also went to Tulsa.
