Wrestlers Take Down Clovis
OHS Mustangs

Friday, Dec. 29 Oakdale’s wrestling team traveled to Clovis High School to take on Clovis and Sultana in duals action. Entering the day Oakdale was ranked sixth in the state and Clovis ranked seventh. The much anticipated dual between the two powerhouse programs did not disappoint.

At 106 pounds, Brayden Abell won his match via pin to start the meet off right. Clovis answered with a victory over 113-pounder Clayton Bashor to even the match at six each. 120-pound grappler Ethan Holcomb lost via pin and Oakdale found themselves in a 12-6 hole. 132-pound junior Dustin Chavez got Oakdale back on track with a 13-4 victory to close the gap. Chavez’s victory got the Mustangs pumped up and the team rattled off seven straight wins following the match. Victories by Seth Borba (138), Ricky Torres (145), Jake Ryan (152), Dakota McNeil (160), Bronson Harmon (170), Cody Golding (195) and Colbey Harlan (220) gave the Mustangs a 36-24 overall win against Clovis in their own gym.

Later that afternoon Oakdale battled Sultana. The Mustangs won the meet 39-28 with wins by Borba, Torres, Ryan, Harmon, Gabe Martinez, Golding and Harlan.

The 11-time defending Valley Oak League champions look to continue their Valley Oak League dominance as they open league this week. On Wednesday, Jan. 3 the team hosts Kimball and Sierra in dual action. Wrestling is set to begin at 4 p.m. inside the main gym.
