Water Polo Teams Win Big In League

Thursday evening was a successful one for both the boys and girls water polo teams. The varsity clubs welcomed in Central Catholic for a Valley Oak League showdown at the OHS Aquatic Center. The girls hit the pool first and won 20-1 over the Raiders. Oakdale scored eight first quarter goals to set up the big night. The Lady Mustangs then scored a dozen more goals throughout the evening to pull away for the win. Camryn O’Neal was inside the net for Oakdale only allowing one goal with numerous saves on the night. Goals by Whitney Lee, Bethany Metcalfe, Daytona McGinnis, Natalie Thompson and others helped power the team to a 3-0 league record. Oakdale clashed with Bret Harte at home on Tuesday, Oct. 17 following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will travel to face the Kimball Jaguars on Thursday, Oct. 19 before finishing the regular season at home on Tuesday, Oct. 24 against Sonora. This will be Senior Night 2017 and is scheduled for 4 p.m.

For the boys, goals came fast, furious and frequently against the Raiders. Oakdale defeated the Raiders 18-1 on Thursday. Oakdale scored two goals in the first minute of action and never looked back. The boys scored a total of eight goals in the first quarter and followed up with five more to lead 13-0 at the break. Goals by Jonathon Speers, Dustin Vanden Bosch, Luke Roche, Joey Cobello, Brendan McAnally, Dakota McNeil, Christian Sawyer, and Aron Cameron powered Oakdale to the win.

The boys hosted Bret Harte on Tuesday evening following The Leader’s press time. Just like the girls, the senior boys will be acknowledged on Tuesday, Oct. 24 against Sonora. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
