The three-time defending Valley Oak League volleyball champion Lady Mustangs earned two more wins this week. The girls defeated both Manteca and Kimball to improve to 9-1 in league play.

Oakdale defeated Manteca on Monday, Oct. 9 in a five game set in Manteca. The Lady Mustangs dropped the first set 16-25. Oakdale answered with a 25-14 victory in set number two to even the series. Oakdale’s backs would be against the wall having dropped the third set 16-25. However, Oakdale remained calm and rallied to win set number four 25-21 to force a fifth set. Oakdale won the dramatic clincher 15-10. The girls avenged their one loss of the season, which came against Manteca on Sept. 13.

The girls made quick work of the Jaguars of Kimball on Thursday night, Oct. 12. Oakdale won the match 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-17) in front of the home crowd. Leading the way for Oakdale were Abby Matoso, Grace Verdegaal, Alyssa Cogburn and Kailee Whorton.

Following the win Oakdale is tied for first place with Manteca (9-1). On Monday, Oct. 16 the girls traveled to Manteca to face East Union (1-9) following The Leader’s press time. Wednesday, Oct. 18 the girls travel to Stockton to face Weston Ranch (3-7). The Lady Mustangs will host Senior Night 2017 on Monday, Oct. 23 against Central Catholic (7-3). That game is set for 6 p.m.
