Soggy Conditions For Soccer Girls
soccerball1

The transition from spring to winter has not been kind to the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity soccer team thus far. The girls lost their league opener 6-0 to Manteca and Mother Nature defeated them with her furious rainstorm late in the week, forcing their second league game to be rescheduled against East Union. No date has been announced for the makeup date.

“The start of the season is challenging with the new season being in winter,” first year varsity head coach Grace Fernandes said. “The players are working hard and excited to get the season going, but we do run into some bad days where the fields turn to mush and have to be creative with our practices.”

This was the first game rescheduled for the girls, but may not be the only one if the field conditions do not improve throughout the season.

Oakdale will take the next couple of weeks off due to winter break but are scheduled to return to action for their home opener on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when they take on Sierra. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY

The same fate awaited the junior varsity girls, as Oakdale fell to Manteca on the road 2-0 on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Oakdale’s road loss was followed up with a washout against East Union and no makeup date has been announced for the league contest. Oakdale returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when they host Sierra with game time scheduled for 4 p.m.
