Rain Dampens Mustang Schedule

Chalk one up for Mother Nature. As much as the area needed the rain to fall, it made things difficult for Oakdale High School athletes to compete. Boys tennis, all softball levels and freshman baseball all fell victim to the weather.

In tennis action (or lack thereof due to weather) the Mustangs were scheduled to host Lathrop in their home opener on Tuesday, March 13 and had an away match set against Sierra for Thursday, March 15. Both matches were rained out and no rescheduled dates have been announced as of press time. Oakdale is 1-0 in Valley Oak League play. The Mustangs were also scheduled to take on Central Catholic on Tuesday, March 20 in Modesto following The Leader’s press time. Thursday, March 22, Oakdale is scheduled to host Manteca at 3:30 p.m.

Oakdale’s Lady Mustang softball team, coming off a first place performance at the Elk Grove Spring Tournament, had a pair of games washed out this past week. On Tuesday the team was supposed to take on Merced on the road and then were scheduled to host Patterson on Saturday, March 17. Neither game happened due to rainy weather and bad field conditions. With the hopes of better weather this week, Oakdale is scheduled to open Valley Oak League play on Wednesday, March 21 on the road against Kimball. Friday, March 23 Oakdale is scheduled to have their home opener against Weston Ranch. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The youngest of baseball players were scheduled to host a pair of games this past week but the angry skies had other plans for the freshman team. Both of their non-conference games were rained out. The young team was scheduled to face Pitman and Consumes Oaks. The Mustangs were scheduled to open up their Valley Oak League season on Tuesday, March 20 on the road against East Union following The Leader’s press time. Thursday they finish their series against the Lancers with a 4 p.m. home game.
