OHS Water Polo Girls Win, Boys Fall To Visiting Ripon

League play has begun for the boys and girls water polo clubs, and both welcomed Ripon to town this past week. On Tuesday, Oct. 4 Oakdale hosted the Indians at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The varsity girls hit the pool first and came out on top 11-4, while the boys battled to a tough 16-10 loss.

The girls jumped out to 5-0 lead behind a pair of goals each from Emily Bennett and Clare McKeon and a goal by Kinsey Ollis. Oakdale added two more goals in the second period by McKeon and Whitney Lee, giving the host team a 7-2 halftime lead. Ripon outscored Oakdale 2-0 in the third period.

McKeon found the net for a game high fourth time in the fourth period, along with two goals by Ollis and the final goal was scored by Hannah Hjelm. The Lady Mustangs improved to 15-3 on the season. Oakdale hosted Calaveras on Tuesday, following The Leader’s press time.

Oakdale’s boys hit the pool following the girl’s action. Oakdale fell behind 9-6 at the half and gave up six goals in the third to fall behind 15-7. Oakdale’s Jackson Metcalfe, Caden Nord, Dakota McNeil and David Albertoni scored goals for the team. Oakdale, now 1-9, was scheduled to host Calaveras on Tuesday, after press time for The Leader. Oakdale will travel to take on Central Catholic on Thursday Oct. 13 at the S.O.S. Club in Modesto.
