Hitting the court twice this week, the Oakdale boys tennis team had mixed results. After a 2-0 start in the Valley Oak League, the boys now sit at 3-1 after falling to Kimball 7-2 but bouncing back with a 7-2 home win over Lathrop.

Oakdale traveled to Tracy to take on the Kimball Jaguars where Kimball swept the Mustangs in singles. The only Mustang to force a third set in the contest was Liam Peters who won set number one 6-3 over Brandon Basto. Peters proved to be a tough out but his efforts fell short in sets two and three, losing 6-7 and 7-10 in those sets.

In doubles action Oakdale took two of three from the Jaguars. The tandem of Jaylen Fogelman and Cameron Bettencourt won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 over Kimball’s Akshat Sharma and Alex Sia. New to the team Matt Kjeldgaard teamed with Clay Verdegaal and won 6-3, 6-1 over Luke Ninh and Timothy Jimenez. Oakdale’s CJ Toledo and Frankie Dutra fell in three sets to Jacob Frebre and Austin Almeranez.

On Thursday afternoon the Mustangs hosted Lathrop where Oakdale made short work of the Spartans. Five of the six singles walked away victorious for the Mustangs. Zack Miller, Daniel Lubeck, Gage Seeley, Angel Padilla and Liam Peters helped power Oakdale to the win. In doubles action Verdegaal and Kjeldgaard won in straight sets, as did Fogleman and Shivam Mistry for Oakdale. The team of Frankie Dutra and Colby Dickman fell in three sets. Dutra and Dickman won the first set 6-2 but lost 1-6, 0-6 in the final two sets.

Oakdale will take this week off but will return to action on Tuesday, March 28 at Central Catholic. Oakdale’s next home match is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29 against Manteca. All tennis matches are scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time.
