Oakdale Golfers Finish Third At Tournament

Sixteen teams showed up for the 2016 Oakdale Cup tournament, hosted Monday, March 7 at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Oakdale’s boys golf team finished with a total score of 416 and placed third behind Buhach Colony (401) and first place Gregori (389).

Helping the Mustangs along their successful run in the tournament were Calvin Reed, who finished in fifth place overall. Reed shot 74 on the day and was four strokes off the leader, KJ Dieker of Gregori. In 14th place was Oakdale sophomore David Myrtakis, who shot 79 on the day. Also finishing in the top 25 were Zackary Tamburrino and Tristian Jaramillo, who both shot 86 in the tournament. Greg Wikoff (91) placed 42nd and Mykel Jaramillo carded a 105 to round out the day for the Mustangs.

On Thursday, March 10 Oakdale defeated Kimball 196-260 in Valley Oak League play. Oakdale hosted the Jaguars in nine-hole action at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Reed and Myrtakis each shot 37 on the day to lead Oakdale. Wikoff finished one stroke behind the duo, with 38. Not too far behind them were teammates Tamburrino (40), Jaramillo (44) and Corey Leach (54).

Oakdale returns to the greens on Wednesday, March 16 at French Camp when they take on Lathrop. The Mustangs will continue to be on the road where they play three straight matches at Manteca Park when they play Manteca on Thursday, March 17; East Union on Thursday, March 24 and finish against Sierra on Thursday, April 7. All tee times are set for 3 p.m. Following the road trip Oakdale returns home for four consecutive Valley Oak League contests beginning Tuesday, April 12 against Central Catholic.
