With the calendar moving toward May, spring sports is entering the home stretch, as teams finish up their league campaigns and some have an eye on playoffs.

Here is a look at some of the most recent action for the various Mustang squads.

SOFTBALL

A Tuesday, April 14 game on the road was a lopsided loss for the Lady Mustangs, as they fell to Central Catholic by a 14-2 final. They did bounce back with an 8-1 win over Sierra, hosting the Timberwolves on Thursday, April 16.

In the game at Central, Katee Conde paced the Oakdale effort, as she went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, two RBI and a run scored.

Leading the team in the win over Sierra were Reese Donaldson, 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored; Briley Everett rapping out three hits including a double and a triple, scoring three runs and driving one in; and Sasha Martin, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

BASEBALL

The up and down season for Oakdale’s varsity baseball team continues, with the squad winning one but then losing two against Central Catholic.

The Mustangs won a tight 2-1 contest on the home diamond on Monday, April 13 and then took an 8-5 loss at Central on April 15. They closed out the three-game series at home on April 17 but that game went in the books as a 13-11 loss.

“The message to the team after Friday is that we still control our own destiny,” head coach Joey Machado said. “We have a chance this week to finish league play strong. Baseball is all about playing a complete seven, one pitch at a time.”

VOLLEYBALL

On Monday, April 13 the Oakdale varsity volleyball boys traveled to Manteca to face East Union. The Lancers made short work of the visitors as they won in a 3-0 sweep. Oakdale battled but fell 12-25, 12-25, 11-25. Iker Juarez and Armando Meza both recorded aces.

Oakdale had two more Valley Oak League contests this past week. They lost in three sets to Sierra at home on April 15 but bounced back with a 3-0 road victory over Central Catholic. The win on April 16 stopped a six-game league skid. On Monday, April 20, Oakdale hosted Mountain House in the team’s home finale. They wrap up the season when they travel to Manteca to face the Buffaloes at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.

TENNIS

The Mustang tennis boys edged out Sierra, 5-4, on the road in a Tuesday, April 14 contest. The team next plays in the Valley Oak League Singles tournament, on April 22 and the VOL Doubles tournament, on April 23, with the host school being Sierra in Manteca.
