Mustangs Of Fall Wrap Up Scrimmage Play

Numerous Oakdale Mustang teams suited up for final tune-up games before entering league play. The girl’s tennis team took on Enochs and Turlock in scrimmage matches that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lady Mustangs hosted Enochs before traveling to Turlock the following day. The girls team opened league play when they traveled Weston Ranch on Tuesday, Sept. 1 after The Leader’s press time. Oakdale hosts its first home match on Thursday, Sept. 3 against East Union at 3:30 p.m.

Meanwhile on a different kind of court, the girls volleyball team took their talents to the hardwood of the OHS gym when the team hosted Hughson on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The girls don’t open league play until Thursday, Sept. 17 but will be busy until then. New coach Heather Gonzales and the girls will be active this week hosting three non-league games which began on Monday, and wrapping up today, Wednesday, against Sonora. Oakdale will pack its bags and head to Reno, Nevada over the weekend to play in the High Sierra Tournament.

Oakdale girls’ golf tees off league play on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club at 3 p.m.; however, the girls did get a pair of scrimmage matches in this past week when the team hosted both Gregori and Downey.

Hoping to make a splash in the pool this season, members of the girls water polo team, who won the Valley Oak League last year. Oakdale hosted four teams in a scrimmage format at Oakdale’s Aquatic Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. Oakdale welcomed Lodi, Vintage, Bella Vista and Clovis North for tune-up matches. Oakdale travels to Clovis to be in the Central Valley Showdown tournament beginning Friday, Sept. 4 and then travels to Rio Americano on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The boys team gets in the pool for the first time this season in a scrimmage set for Saturday, Sept. 5 in Johansen.

The cross country teams went to Ceres to take on Ceres and Central Valley in a scrimmage run. Oakdale will be off the next week but return to action when they participate in the Sierra Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
