Mustangs Host County Clash At The Corral

Action was fast and furious on Friday, March 23 as Oakdale High School hosted over 20 schools from three different counties for the County Clash IV. The track and field event stretched into the night and was packed with Olympic style events.

Oakdale had several top 10 finishes throughout the competition.

For the boys, Jorge Barajas took first place in the shot put with a massive toss of 49-06.75 feet, a personal best for the senior. Sophomore Ben Chappell placed eighth in the event and placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 135-08. Senior Josh Jacobson competed in multiple events and placed sixth in the 200 meter race and tenth in the long jump. Junior Cam Burke placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and also placed seventh in the 400 meter race. James Forkner placed fifth in the 3200 meter race. Senior Hunter Falconi placed fourth in the high jump with a five foot-eight inch leap. Fellow seniors Cesar Garcia and Jace Krick also placed in the top ten in their events for the Mustangs as Garcia took eighth in the 800 meter race and Krick placed eighth in the 110 meter hurdles.

The Lady Mustangs shone brightly under the lights as numerous placed in the top ten. Sophomore Kayden Legan had a personal record with an 11:57.10 in the 3200 meter race and placed second. In shot put Angelica Lowry placed second, edging out third place finisher, teammate Hallie Morton. Freshman Emma Harper took first in the discus with a heave of 138-06. Her throw was 20 feet further than second place. The future in discus appears bright as freshman Jessica Jericoff placed third in discus. Cassie England, a multi-event star, placed fourth in the long jump, second in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump. Kyndall Green took eighth in the pole vault and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles. In the 400 meter race senior Marnelle Salie placed sixth and took eighth in the 200 meter race. Also in the 200 meter race Courtney Dickens placed seventh in the event.

Oakdale was scheduled to host Manteca for a Valley Oak League event on Thursday afternoon, March 22 but the event was rescheduled for a later date due to the inclement weather.
