It was a busy week for the Oakdale golf team, and a successful one. The Mustang boys started the week by hosting the 2018 Oakdale Cup at Oakdale Golf and Country Club on Monday, March 5. A total of 19 schools from the Sac-Joaquin Section participated in the event with Vista Del Lago taking first place with a score of 397. Oakdale finished second overall at 417 strokes, playing a solid team game in their own tournament.

Taking first as an individual was Oakdale freshman Ryan Meyer. The young Mustang shot a par 72 in the event and finished on top of the leaderboard with 101 names below him.

“It was a great feeling and a nice way to start the season,” said Meyer on his accomplishment.

Calvin Reed finished in fourth place at 77, carding a very respectable five over par on the Oakdale course. David Myrtakis placed 15th overall at 84. Tristan Jaramillo (89) finished 22nd; Max Moore (95) placed 33rd and Kyle Seese (98) placed 41st for Oakdale.

On Wednesday, March 7 the team defeated Manteca 199-282 at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Meyer continued his impressive start by once again appearing on top of the leaderboard. Through nine holes Meyer shot a 37. Moore shot 39 for the Mustangs, while Myrtakis, Reed and Jaramillo each shot 41. Seese finished the day carding a 51 through nine holes.

Oakdale finished the week with a 201-260 home win over East Union. The Mustangs had three golfers shoot under 40 as Reed (37), Meyer (38) and Myrtakis (39) all came in under that mark. Moore (43), Jaramillo (44) and Seese (50) rounded out the day’s scoring.

The Mustangs are now 3-0 in Valley Oak League play and return to the course on Thursday, March 15 when they host Lathrop. Tee time is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
