Mixed Results For Swimmers At VOL Meet

Oakdale hosted the 2016 Valley Oak League Swimming Championship on Saturday, April 30. Nine schools invaded the Oakdale Aquatic Center for the annual event. Oakdale’s junior varsity girls took first place with a total of 111 points, 15 points over the second place Manteca Buffaloes. Oakdale’s varsity girls team finished in third with a total of 90 points on the day, Ripon swam away with the competition at 164 points. The Mustang varsity boys posted a fifth place finish earning 40 points on the day.

For Oakdale’s junior varsity girls, the day started out strong with a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The foursome of Layla Sullivan, Emma Bevan, Kate Mendes and Adrienne Ferreira finished in 2:24.86. Kayla Peterson took first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 30.16, an event where teammates Bevan, Ferreira and Jordyn Ferreira also placed in the top five for Oakdale. Mendes and Natalie Thompson placed first and second in the 50 yard butterfly. Thompson also finished first in the 50 yard breaststroke. Contributing to the big day for the young ladies was Neesa Deleon who finished first in the 100 yard freestyle.

Oakdale’s varsity girls notable performers included Clare McKeon who took third in the 200 IM; a fourth place finish for Kassidy Houcks in the 100 yard freestyle, Emma Magnussen’s first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke, and third place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. Juliette Leibenson claimed first in the 100 yard breaststroke and Oakdale’s third place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay as Whitney Lee, Kinsey Ollis, Emily Bennett and Lacy Hardy teamed up for the event. Bennett also took fourth in the 200 yard freestyle event.

The fifth place varsity boys had standouts on the day for the Mustangs as well. Caden Nord placed first in the 100 yard freestyle and second in the 50 yard freestyle. David Albertoni placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke for the Mustangs.

Oakdale turns their focus to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Qualifying at Tokay High School in Lodi. Girls qualifying are set for Thursday, May 12, boys qualifying Friday, May 13 with Section Finals to be held at Tokay High School on Saturday, May 14. All events are scheduled for 10 a.m.
