The Oakdale High School varsity girls soccer team had a pair of road games this past week. Both of the Valley Oak League games ended in a tie. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, Oakdale (6-5-2, 2-3-2) headed to Tracy to face Kimball (3-12-2, 2-3-1) and tied 2-2. Each team scored one goal in each half. Freshman Hannah Guthrie scored both goals for Oakdale and the goals were assisted by Krissy Lolonis and Brianna Montoya. Oakdale led 2-1 late but Kimball tied the game in the final minute.

Thursday evening the girls led 3-0 in the first half against Central Catholic (11-7-2, 3-3-1). However, the Raiders scored three unanswered in the second half, including a last minute goal to tie the game at three. Lolonis, Maddy Freitas and Sara Velasquez scored goals for Oakdale. Notching the assists were Francesca Ryan, Talia Millard and Montoya.

“We are a young team and those things are going to happen,” said head coach Grace Fernandes of giving up the lead late in the games.

The girls are currently in fifth place in the Valley Oak League. Oakdale looked to gain ground in the standings and make a playoff push as they played second place Manteca (13-4-0, 5-1) on Tuesday, Jan. 23 following The Leader’s press time.

On Thursday night, Jan. 25 the girls wrap up a four game road trip at East Union (10-4-0, 5-1-0). Game time is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 30 Oakdale returns home to take on first place Sierra (16-0-1, 7-0-0).
