The rain fell hard one day this past week and in a surprise turn of events, caused the Oakdale varsity girls basketball road game to be postponed. Tuesday night, Jan. 9 the Lady Mustangs (8-7, 1-2) headed to Manteca to take on East Union (8-6, 2-1) but due to a leak in the gym roof, the game has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3. Oakdale returned home on Thursday, Jan. 11 to take on second place Lathrop (11-4, 4-0). Oakdale fell to the Spartans in that contest, 54-36.

The Spartans outscored Oakdale 37-16 in the first half and Oakdale’s offense struggled in the second half as well. Leading scorer was Carley Maaske with 11 points. The junior guard was the only Lady Mustang to reach double figures that night.

Following the loss Oakdale currently sits in fifth place and will look to gain ground in the Valley Oak League this week. On Tuesday night, Jan. 16 the girls hosted third place Manteca (11-6, 1-2) following The Leader’s press time. Thursday night, Jan. 18 Oakdale travels to face the Timberwolves of Sierra (5-10, 0-4).

Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
