Some say, “all good things must come to an end” and on Tuesday, April 29 two things did come to an end; a 90-plus years school rivalry between Oakdale and Sonora high school in Valley Oak League play, as Sonora will be relocating into the Mother Lode League at the beginning of the new school year, and for five OHS seniors, it was the final soccer game of their high school soccer careers. Those athletes are Hannah Hanko, Danae Rose, Izzy Arellano, Kori Altmann, and Christina Bradshaw. The seniors and the rest of the team went out in style as they routed the Wildcats, 7-1, in the season finale.

Oakdale’s offense was explosive in the first half, as the team racked up four goals in the first 40 minutes to take a 4-1 halftime lead. The team didn’t let up as they added three more goals to cap off the victory.

“I am very happy for the girls, especially the seniors on senior night. They did a great job of delivering execution and stuck to the game plan from start to finish. The girls ended their season on a high note,” Coach Alfredo Quiroga commented.

Sophomore goalkeeper, Melissa Ibarra, had four saves in the game for Oakdale, as well as an assist. Oakdale’s scoring was indeed a team effort as Madison Feuerstein led the way with a hat trick and an assist. Rose contributed with a pair of goals of her own, and Arellano added a goal as well as an assist. Sydney Sudaria, Logan Laugero, Jazmin Velazquez and Bradshaw all got involved as they each provided an assist.
